Governing Board Award

Hemet, February 3, 2025: The Governing Board of the Hemet Unified School District, on nomination by
Trustee Mr. Kenneth Prado, has selected Mrs. Monica Barragan, teacher at West Valley High School as the
February 2025, recipient of the Governing Board Recognition and Award.

West Valley High School is proud to have one of its own recognized by the school board tonight. Mrs. Monica
Barragan, a proud 1995 graduate of West Valley High School, returned to her alma mater in 2023 after
serving Hemet USD for 12 years across multiple school sites. Since her return, she has made an immediate
and lasting impact on our school community. As a social science teacher for mild/moderate courses, Mrs.
Barragan works with some of our students with the highest needs, fostering a classroom environment that is
both welcoming and academically challenging. Her dedication to her students and her craft is evident in
the thoughtful and engaging lessons she provides, as well as her unwavering belief in every student’s
potential.

Beyond the classroom, Mrs. Barragan exemplifies the spirit of service and community. She serves as the
advisor for the Christian Club, dedicating her time during lunches and after school to help students plan
meaningful club and schoolwide events. During the 2024-25 school year, her leadership helped coordinate
two impactful events that strengthened our school culture and brought students together in positive and
meaningful ways. Mrs. Barragan also supports our wrestling program, where her family plays an active role.
Her son has wrestled for West Valley for three years, and her husband serves as one of our assistant wrestling
coaches, making the Barragan family a key part of our school community.

Additionally, she uses her community connections to secure donations and manpower for various school activities. Her positivity, willingness to go above and beyond, and commitment to the success of all students, make her an invaluable member of the West Valley team. We are honored to recognize Mrs. Barragan’s contributions tonight and celebrate the profound difference she and her family make each day.

For outstanding performance, professionalism, and loyalty to the Hemet Unified School District Trustee
Kenneth Prado presents Mrs. Monica Barragan with the Governing Board Recognition of Excellence Award
and a $500 certificate for the District program of her choice.
