Dear HUSD Families,
This week has presented significant challenges with power outages affecting many of our schools and homes. I want to acknowledge the impact this has had on our community and express my gratitude for your patience, understanding, and support as we navigate these challenging circumstances.
Over the past two days, we’ve had to make the difficult decision to close several sites to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff. These decisions are never made lightly, and I deeply appreciate your flexibility and cooperation as we respond to rapidly changing circumstances.
We understand the disruptions these closures may have caused and remain committed to providing updates as promptly as possible. Our priority is always to keep schools open whenever it is safe to do so, as we know this best serves our community. This sometimes requires making announcements just a few hours before school starts, as we hold out hope that power might be restored in time to welcome students back.
Your partnership and understanding during this time are not taken lightly as we work together to prioritize the safety and education of our students. Thank you for your continued support during these challenging times.
Sincerely,
Christi Barrett, Ph.D.
Superintendent

January 8, 2025
Dear HUSD Families,
We hope this message finds you safe and well as we navigate the challenges caused by the ongoing power outages. We recognize that many homes are without power this evening, and we want you to know that our hearts are with you. This message is to inform you that if outages persist overnight, schools in those areas may need to close for the day. We will carefully evaluate the situation early tomorrow morning and the decision of whether a school will be open will be made in accordance with its power status at that time. Between 5:00 and 6:00 AM, we will send an update via email to all families, which will include a list of schools that are open and those, if any, that will be closed for the day.
As a united community, we prioritize keeping our schools open and minimizing disruptions to learning whenever possible. However, the loss of power presents significant challenges that impact essential operations, including lighting in classrooms and restroom accessibility. While we made every effort to make it work today for impacted schools, continuing under these conditions tomorrow would have too great an impact on our ability to provide a safe and effective learning environment.
We understand the difficulty of being in a standby position, but we want to be transparent about the situation to provide you with some time, albeit limited, to make necessary plans. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work through this together.
Thank You,
Hemet Unified
This webpage will be updated tomorrow morning with the list of schools.
