HUSD Launches Environmental Water Resource Program

HUSD is proud to highlight its Career Technical Education (CTE) Environmental Water Resource (EWR) Program. This innovative initiative is designed to equip students with essential skills and provide pathways to high-wage careers in the water industry. Through partnerships with Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD), Metropolitan Water District, and Mt. San Jacinto College, the program offers hands-on training, mentorship, and early college credit, all while addressing a critical workforce gap in the water sector.

“With over 40% of the local water district’s workforce nearing retirement, the EWR Program offers a valuable solution by preparing students with industry certifications and entry-level skills.” states Dr. Laura Gallardo, HUSD Director of Career Technical Education. The program also focuses on engaging underrepresented students, giving them a clear path to economic stability.

Since its launch, the EWR Program has already made a significant impact by connecting students to real-world apprenticeship opportunities after graduation, allowing them to earn while they learn. As the program expands, HUSD is confident that it will not only lead students to academic and career success but also support the region’s economic development by fostering a skilled workforce for the future.
