HUSD is proud to offer choir programs across all traditional elementary and K-8 schools, where students in grades 4-5 have the opportunity to develop their vocal skills and participate in a group setting.
The choir program serves as an enriching opportunity for students to develop not only their vocal abilities but also essential teamwork skills. Choir members work together towards group goals, learning to take risks and grow through the performance of a variety of musical styles, languages, and genres. It’s an all-inclusive program designed to encourage creativity and foster a sense of accomplishment.
Choir performances bring energy and excitement to school and district-wide events. Whether through melody, rhythm, or lyrics, choir offers a unique way for students to express themselves while connecting with their peers and audiences.
Renee Schoettle, Hemet Elementary School choir teacher, shares, “I tell the students that if they like to sing, then choir is for them. The performances are icing on the cake.
If they aren’t ready for the icing, that’s okay. At some point they will be ready. I still get a flustered stomach and I let the students know that. Feeling anxious is a good thing. It means you care about what you are doing and want to do your best!”
Participation in choir benefits students academically, socially, and emotionally. Being part of a team and engaging in a creative activity helps boost students’ confidence, making school more enjoyable and leading to greater academic engagement.
The HUSD choir program is preparing for exciting upcoming performances and encourages the community to come out and cheer for these talented students. Choir is more than just singing—it’s an opportunity for students to grow, connect, and shine.
