On Saturday, November 9, Hemet Unified School District hosted the Native American Cultural Education Day, honoring the heritage and contributions of local Native American tribes. Held at the Western Science Center, the event was organized by HUSD’s Title VI Committee to foster understanding, respect, and community among families, students, and members of all backgrounds.
The day featured a variety of activities celebrating the richness of Native American culture and traditions. Attendees explored craft tables where they could create traditional art and engage in hands-on cultural activities. Informational booths offered a wealth of knowledge on local tribes, historical artifacts, and storytelling, allowing participants to deepen their appreciation for Native American history and its significance in our region. For many, a highlight was free admission to the Western Science Center, providing an ideal backdrop to explore both ancient artifacts and new discoveries.
To make the event accessible for all, shuttle services were available from Hamilton High School, bringing families and students together from across the district. This community support underscored the district’s commitment to inclusivity, and participants left feeling connected not only to local Native American heritage but also to each other.
The event was a memorable opportunity for all to learn and celebrate, bringing people together to honor the legacy and living traditions of Native American communities.
