Cottonwood School is proud to celebrate Deeanna Decker as their Employee of Excellence. Deeanna comes to school every day with a smile on her face, a compliment on her lips and a heart of service. As our Campus Security Officer, Deeanna takes personal responsibility to make sure that all students and staff members are safe at all times. She is perceptive and aware, keeping her eyes and ears open and constantly canvases the campus making sure everything is in place. She is an excellent communicator and alerts office staff and the custodial team if she spots anything out of the ordinary, living by the motto, “it’s better to be safe than sorry.”
She is quick to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. When students are in class, some people might seize the opportunity to take a break, not Deeanna, instead, she can frequently be found walking and chatting with a student who needs to reset, tying the shoe of a small child, walking classroom to classroom checking in with teachers, helping someone navigate a disagreement, or supporting a staff member in need. Deeanna is quick to respond when called on the radio and no request is ever too small.
Deeanna is the first to greet our Cougars when they arrive on campus and the last person to make sure they safely board the bus, meet their parents in the car pick-up line or check into ELOP. We are so fortunate for all that Deanna does above and beyond her job description because she doesn’t see Cottonwood’s students and staff merely as a job, she sees them as family.
