The first responder program is the newest Career Technical Education program offered in the Hemet Unified School District and exclusive to Alessandro High School. Students taking this class are instructed in the practices of fire fighters, medical technicians, and other emergency personnel.
The first class of students are already receiving instruction from instructor Greg Sell, former deputy sheriff in Riverside county, brother of current Hemet fire chief Eddie Sell. Greg Sell instructs the students in proper practice and drills using the donated fire engine and newly donated ambulance. During the ribbon cutting event, students provided a fire safety demonstration, incorporating their fire engine experience and usage of regulation uniforms.
This program, like other CTE courses, operates with the objective of giving students practical experience and connections that will prepare them to enter the workforce. This program has received tremendous community support including donations from the Hemet fire department who recently donated a fire engine and AMR who donated an ambulance.
The ribbon cutting ceremony featured speakers including Superintendent Dr. Christi Barret, Principal Matthew Centofranchi, and Fire Chief Eddie Sell.
